Kirkburton Junior Football Team has triumphed at a local tournament in Honley.
The Under-11s even won their way to the final through penalties.
Club spokesman Dave Atkinson said: “The weather was great — hot and sunny and the lads were really looking forward to our very own World Cup!
“This is a major tournament in the Huddersfield area, all the top teams entered and competition was fierce.”
We won our group table and went into the knockout stages feeling good — unlike England.
“The semi-final against home team Honley, supported loudly by the large crowd, went to penalties, which we won with all the lads going wild afterwards.
“The final was a very tense affair against Netherton.
“They were great opponents and the match was played in a real sporting atmosphere — a good, hard match and we ran out 1-0 winners.”
