MANY will no doubt wonder how Kirklees College can afford a £75,000 ‘partnership deal’ with Huddersfield Town at a time when the college faces severe cuts.

But, as both sides are at pains to point out, the college will get far more than simply its name on the team’s shirt.

The college says this will be a far more effective way of getting its name out into the wider public arena away from the usual billboards and bus advertisements.

After all, many people still fail to realise that the college provides a wide range of vocational qualifications leading to real jobs.

And the deal means the college will also be able to use some of Town’s facilities.

But several of the college’s teaching staff face redundancy and it’s doubtful many, if any, of them would view this as money well spent at such a time of financial hardship.
