Clifton

ENJOY a walk around the ‘Town on the Cliff’. A heritage walk around Clifton takes place this Friday, June 1, at 7.15pm. Those interested in this walk should meet David Nortcliffe to explore the ancient village of Clifton adjoining the Kirklees Estate - which includes mining, wire and Brontës in its fascinating past. Meet by the War Memorial and green in Clifton. Admission is £3 and the conducted walk is expected to last around two hours.

Brighouse

HELP give the River Calder a new lease of life with a meeting to organise an official Friends group at Brighouse Civic Hall on Thursday, May 31, at 7.30pm. GIVE blood at St John’s Church, Brighouse, this Friday, June 1, from 4pm until 4pm and 5pm until 7.30pm. Another blood donor session takes place later in the month at St Martin’s Church on will take place on Wednesday, June 27, at the same times.

A GIANT jubilee street party will take over Brighouse town centre this Saturday, June 2, from 10am until 3pm. The town centre will turn back the clock to the 1950s to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with musical entertainment to get people dancing in the streets. Commercial Street will be closed for the day as a Jubilee feast will take place and tables and chairs fill the street.

BRIGHOUSE police station will be closed on the forthcoming bank holidays, Monday and Tuesday, June 4 and June 5.

Greetland

THE Greetland and Stainland Ward forum takes place on Thursday, May 31, for residents to hear what the council is doing in the local area and report concerns to local councillors. It takes place at Greetland Academy, School Street, at 7pm.

Calderdale

SONGS from the shows feature as part of a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert tomorrow. Halifax Aachen Society will be joined by Huddersfield group Reflections for the concert. Admission is £6 for adults and £4.50 for under 12s on the door. The concert, at Moore Hall, St Andrews Methodist Church, Huddersfield Road, Halifax, starts at 7.30pm.

Junior Church meets every Sunday from 10.30am.

ST Andrew’s Methodist Church has a crèche in the coffee bar for babies under three years and is sending out an open invitation for people to join the congregation for coffee after morning worship. Anyone new to the church should make themselves known to one of the stewards.
