Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Art Society will welcome John Thornton who will be giving a demonstration in oils at tonight’s meeting (Tuesday July 24). Join the Calderdale Heritage Walks at Lower Rastrick and explore the waterside areas where Brighouse meets Rastrick plus the lower parts of old Rastrick, its housing, industries, other buildings and transport infrastructure. Meet David Nortcliffe at 2.15pm by the Assembly Rooms car park, Briggate, Brighouse, this Sunday, July 29, at 2.15pm.The walk is expected to last around two hours and costs £3.

Fridays sees Tai Chi and Dancing at Upper Edge Baptist Church, Dewsbury Road, Rastrick, with Tai Chi sessions at 1pm and line dancing at 2.30pm. Sessions are for the over 50s.


The over 50s living in the Elland area can join art classes which are being held at Willow Court, Victoria Road, Elland, every Thursday from 1.40pm.

St Mary’s Church at The Cross, Elland, hosts a coffee morning with bring-and-buy sale on the first Saturday of every month at 10am until midday. The church is also open, and people have the chance to light a candle.


Southowram Horticultural and Allotments Society next meets tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8pm at the New Street Centre when final arrangements will be made for the 77th Annual Show to be held at Withinfields Primary School on Saturday, August 18.

The next monthly coffee morning for charity organised by members and friends of Boothtown and Southowram Methodist Church will take place on Tuesday, August 7 between 10am and noon at Southowram Community Centre, off Law Lane. Donations will go to Action for Children.
