Memories of Elland and District on film will be shown at Blackley Baptist Church on Friday, November 23 at 7.30pm. The event features films by the late Ernest Ambler shown by his son Robert and includes the making of the M62 and events in Elland. Admission is £4 on the door.

On Saturday, November 24, from 10am-2pm there will be a Christmas Fayre at St Mary’s Church, The Cross, Church Street, Elland.

On Friday, December 7, from 2.30pm Elland town centre will become a hub of pre-Christmas fun. Children from three local primary schools will sing Christmas carols around the tree in at Coronation Street, plus there will be a visit from Father Christmas, a secret Santa, the draw for the town’s loyalty cars and fireworks display at around 5pm.


Brighouse and Rastrick Band hold a concert on November 24 at St Matthew’s Parish Church, Rastrick. It’s part of the Rastrick Library centenary celebrations. Tickets are £12 from Rastrick Library and Brighouse Library.

The return of the Brighouse Christmas market and lights switch-on takes place on Saturday, November 24. There will be more than 60 Totally Locally stalls from 9am-5pm, a food and drink market, fairground and visit from Father Christmas in the afternoon.

On Sunday, November 25, there will be an indoor car bootless sale at Bailiff Bridge Community Centre, Victoria Road from 9am until midday.


Southowram Horticultural and Allotments Society holds its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, November 29 at 8pm at the New Street Centre, Southowram. It’s open to all.
