IT was a last-chance operation that saved 40-year-old Janine Clarke from a miserable life of obesity, depression and ill-health.

And that’s just the point – last chance surgery.

For even though Janine has managed to go down from 21 stones to just 12, she will never be able to eat properly again.

Janine has had an irreversible gastric bypass operation which means she can now only ever eat and drink small amounts. She has been brave enough to speak out and show us how she looked before the surgery and the amazing transformation since.

That, coupled with the Panorama TV programme earlier this week about Alder Hey children’s hospital in Liverpool showing the terrible toll too many sweets and over-eating can have on children’s bodies, should be a warning to everyone.

You have one life, one body so look after it.

An early death can have a devastating impact on the lives of those left behind
