FOR more than two decades they have supported parents and toddlers almost every day of the year.
But after 25 years the Denby Dale Parent and Toddler Group has closed its doors.
The children said a sad farewell to the dedicated staff who have done all they could to keep the group going, despite financial difficulties.
The group, based at the Methodist Church, provided care for children once their parents returned to work. Dedicated staff would start in the mornings and take the children to school.
But with many parents now forced to return to work full time, it’s meant more children in full time care instead.
Once the difficulties were first known in 2008, the parents rallied round organisers and held a massive fundraising effort to get it back on its feet.
Their efforts paid off but it only postponed the time it was forced to close for good. Parents described it as a sad day, but it’s heartwarming that everything was done to try and save it.
They fought and won, but ultimately, as it the case with a lot of groups and businesses of late, the economic cost was too high a price to pay in the end.
