THERE is no doubt that the giant posters in the grand Victorian buildings around St George’s Square catch the eye ... and not in a pleasant way.
This does throw up an interesting question that people do have a right to display anything they want in this manner.
If it was a planning issue such as a gaudy sign or an extension out of character with the rest of the building then no doubt planning permission would be immediately refused.
So, it seems the powers-that-be have no power over this.
Let’s hope this is an isolated case, but the concern is that this may be the shape of things to come and more of our iconic buildings will become equally harsh on the eye.
Although the businesses may not be breaking any rules, it just doesn’t look right.
