AN organisation dedicated to helping people who suffer from manic depression is right to talk about its funding concerns.

Huddersfield MDF Bi-Polar Organisation is one of many small good causes that would find it virtually impossible to raise its own funds and therefore relies on help from grants.

The group says its most recent request for help from Kirklees Council for just £1,000 was turned down and fears that could have a serious impact on the services it offers to up to 50 sufferers in the Huddersfield area.

Its most vital service is to provide a contact number 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Surely the service this organisation provides takes the pressure off health and, possibly, social services. That care would be expensive.

And when you look at it that way, £1,000 a year seems to offer good value for taxpayers’ money.
