CHARITY fundraisers are to dedicate their latest event to a missing Cowlersley man.

Geoffrey Bottomley disappeared last summer on a walking holiday in the Swiss Alps and has not been found despite a huge search by mountain rescue teams.

Now Linthwaite Ladies Guild are to raise money for the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, who provide a search and rescue service in this area.

They are holding a coffee morning and bring and buy sale at Broad Oak Bowling Club from 10am on Wednesday, May 16, to raise cash.

Guild chairman Shirley Shaw said: “Mr Bottomley was a noted pianist who has entertained the Guild on a number of occasions and was a popular figure in this area.

“Most of our members know Geoffrey and we thought it would be an appropriate gesture if we acknowledge it at our charity day.”

The Guild’s last such event raised more than £1,000 for Help for Heroes.
