THE inquest into the tragic death of army bomb disposal expert Captain Lisa Head makes harrowing reading.

But in some ways it is also inspirational in the way Capt Head and her colleagues showed the kind of courage which is beyond most people’s comprehension.

To walk up to one bomb is tough enough, but Capt Head did that walk three times in a bid to keep the Afghan population and Allied forces safe before she was terribly injured in an explosion.

Her comrades ignored the obvious danger and made the split second decision to give her vital first aid. They could so easily have been killed.

It is then a testament to the immense skills of the RAF Critical Care Support Team that they managed to get Capt Head back to the UK so her family could say goodbye to her before she passed away.

All this puts everyday problems well and truly into perspective.
