JUST what is wrong with Wakefield Road to claim so many lives?
Never before has one road in Huddersfield led to so many deaths in such a short space of time.
Is it bad driving? Are the road signs not clear enough? Is the road deceptive? Is it just sheer coincidence that so many tragedies have happened so close together?
Some accidents can be quickly explained following detailed examinations by highly-trained accident investigation experts while others could be a combination of a sequence of events that have led to someone’s death.
Whatever the reason, it is vital that the organisations involved in making sure future tragedies can be prevented work closely together.
These are the police, Kirklees highways officials, local councillors and the Coroner whose job it will ultimately be to give a verdict.
Wakefield MP Mary Creagh is calling for speed cameras and traffic-calming measures. The reply to this is often that there needs to be a certain number of fatalities or serious injury accidents to warrant such action.
Surely Wakefield Road has now passed this grim toll.
