Name: JASON McCARTNEY MP -

Position/ Job Title: Colne Valley MP.

What was the best thing that happened in 2012 in your area?: "Record GCSE results at local schools, great community spirit for the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics/ Paralympics (Salendine Nook High School and Helme School pupils attended the opening ceremony).

"I was proud to open a new engineering works and the first new dye house in the UK for 20 years and Huddersfield Town gaining promotion at last.

What frustrated you the most?:

"The doom mongers talking down our country and our young people. The wet summer that affected local community and sporting events – it was a real shame for all the team and exhibitors involved with the Honley Show.

What is your local New Year’s resolution for 2013?:

"More jobs, more apprenticeships, making preparations to make the most of all the tourism and business opportunities from the Tour De France in 2014, better weather for the Honley Show and hopefully Huddersfield Town making a late push for the playoffs.

Name: KATE DRAKE -

Position/Job Title: St George’s Church, Brockholes 150th anniversary co-ordinator:

What was the best thing that happened in 2012 in your area?:

"The church completed a series of successful fundraising events to ensure we can finance our 150th celebrations in 2013 in a fitting and enjoyable manner. The 150th ‘launch’ on Advent Sunday 2012, as reported in the Examiner, went very well."

What frustrated you the most?:

"The effort brought people together, working enthusiastically towards a common goal and frustrations were minimal."

What is your local New Year’s resolution for 2013?:

"The people in our current congregation at St George’s are proud to be marking the 150th anniversary and are looking forward to celebration events which will be shared with all of the Brockholes (and wider) community.

"It should be noted that all this has been planned without a permanent vicar so it clearly is one of our big hopes for 2013 that a new vicar will be appointed and take up residence in Honley and Brockholes."

Name: TERRY LYONS - Position/Job Title: Leader of Holme Valley North Ward Independent Group/ joint leader of Green Independent Group.

What was the best thing that happened in 2012 in your area?:

"The month long patching of potholes, supported by the three Holme Valley North councillors – Charles Greaves, Edgar Holroyd-Doveton and myself – funded from our local budget, covering all the Holme Valley North Ward by a dedicated highways team. This was in addition to normal Kirklees Council activities and enabled necessary work to be done, which would otherwise have been left."

What frustrated you the most?:

"Not being able to make any further progress with the extension of the Meltham Greenway. Unfortunately, a landowner refuses to speak to us."

"What is your local New Year’s resolution for 2013:

"The creation of the long-awaited skateboard/BMX track in Meltham."

Name: MARGARET DALE -

Position/Job Title: Chairman of the Keep Holmfirth Special campaign group.

What was the best thing that happened in 2012 in your area?

"Getting to know more wonderful people who live in the valley and seeing local groups working together for the benefit of everyone."

What frustrated you the most?:

"The length of time it takes to get things done."

What is your local New Year’s resolution for 2013:

"A series of small steps, taken with others, that will make the valley a great place to live, work and visit."

Position: Editor Honley Flyer / Honley Village Community Trust.

What was the best thing that happened in 2012 in your area?:

"Got the Honley boules pitch (petanque terrain) open."

What frustrated you the most?:

"Planning requirements for the boules pitch."

What is your local New Year’s resolution for 2013:

"To beat Heckmondwike at boules (They beat us 240 to 123 in Heckmondwike on December 13, 2012."

- What was the best thing that happened in 2012 in your area?:

"Holme Valley North going fully Independent after this May’s local elections."

What frustrated you the most?:

"The failure of our political parties locally and nationally to work together."

What is your local New Year’s resolution for 2013?:

"To drive forward more local projects, to improve our villages and to tackle the issues that are important to the valleys and villages."

"Continued growth of passenger numbers despite the recession."

What frustrated you the most?:

"Overcrowding on peak and many off-peak services in both directions."

"Steps taken towards improving the stations on the Penistone Line and inclusion in the forthcoming Northern Franchise".
