AN Emley Moor Mast communications shack could become a house.

Applicant, Phil Moore, wants to convert an old radio relay building off Jagger Lane into a three-bed home.

The building, next to a radio mast across the road from the 330m tall tower, was built in the late 80s, having been commissioned by West Yorkshire Police to provide an emergency services radio relay post.

The building has now been made redundant due to advancements in technology and the diversification of the main Emley Moor transmitting station into the telecommunications industry.

Plans submitted to Kirklees Council show the applicant intends to build a small extension to the south east gable and raise the angle of the pitched roof to allow a second floor inside.

The extension will be constructed from the stone removed when creating the openings for the windows and a porch.

The existing steel gate will be replaced with a timber one, which will lead to a short gravel drive and hard standing for three vehicles.

Public consultation on the plan ends on Sunday, July 8.
