A MAN has been charged with causing the death of a Huddersfield road traffic police officer.

Pc Mark Goodlad was tragically killed in a road traffic collision on the M1 near Wakefield on October 24 last year.

Now a 45-year-old man from the Oldham area of Greater Manchester has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed to appear at Wakefield Magistrates at a later date.

Pc Goodlad had stopped to help a broken down motorist on the M1.

The 41-year-old had one son, Ben, a pupil at Castle Hall School in Mirfield.

He was married to Helen, Ben’s stepmother, and they lived in East Yorkshire.

At the time of his death West Yorkshire Chief Constable Sir Norman Bettison said he had made the “ultimate sacrifice.”

Pc Goodlad’s funeral took place at Wakefield Cathedral with an honour guard of the officer’s colleagues. Ben carried his father’s white-topped police cap into the service.
