A FOOTBALL club in the heart of the community has launched an appeal to help restore it to its former glory.

Marsden FC want residents and businesses to help it raise money to create a new training pitch, clubhouse and renovate the changing rooms to build upon its increasing success.

It is also looking for a kit sponsor for its newly set up girls’ and women’s teams ahead of their entrance into the league in September.

The community-owned club was taken over by a new committee last September after several years of being inactive and currently has three league teams.

Their biggest priority is to raise around £2,000 to create a usable all-weather pitch, complete with flood lights and astro turf, so they no longer have to rent a training space during the winter.

One of the members, Julie Walker said: “We took over the club to give people in the community somewhere to come and play football because there weren’t any other local teams.

“It’s going really well so far but now we need some help to improve facilities to help it to grow.

“We also need to buy new hoodies and training coats so any donations will be greatfully received and are still on the look out for more ladies and girls to come to our training sessions.”

The club plans to put on a number of outdoors community events wunion and presentation evenings.
