KENNY BALL and his band will headline the 2011 annual Marsden Jazz Festival.

Described as ‘Montreux meets The Vicar of Dibley’ and ‘the good old days of Brecon’, the village oozes jazz from every nook and cranny.

With more than 70 events scheduled over 48 hours, there really will be something to suit every taste.

And this year, from Friday to Sunday October 7-9 Marsden is celebrating its 20th anniversary in style. Two All-Stars concerts will mark the opening and closing of the festival, and following the success of last year’s festival commission, the Green Seagull, by Tommy Evans, the festival are this year commissioning two new pieces, Šfrom Ben Crosland and from Richard Ormrod.

Highlights also include Kenny Ball, pictured, Liane Carroll, Soweto Kinch, The Submotion Orchestra, Trio VD, Asaf Sirkis Trio, and the festival’s flagship New Stream – this year’s line up including Olivia Moore, World Service Project, and Stuart McCallum.

As well as gigs, there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, whether you are a serious musician, or a toddler wanting to make some sounds.

“The full programme will be available from the end of July, please check online at www.marsdenjazzfestival.com”
