JOE Braithwaite is the chair of the Elland and District Partnership, which aims to improve the town and support community and environmental activities for all.

Best thing that happened in 2012? This is not an easy ask as there have been a number of notable achievements during this Jubilee Year – the unveiling of the Jubilee Stones and Seats, and the upgrading of the Skate Park for the young people.

But the best thing was the opening of the Riverside Park by the Mayor of Calderdale, after much voluntary work by Guides and Brownies and other groups and organisations.

What frustrated you the most? The most devastating and frustrating event was the sudden closure of the town’s swimming pool with no prospect of replacement, as has happened in other towns in Calderdale.

Hopes for 2013: My New Year Resolution will be to unite all groups, organisations and residents to work together to improve facilities and the environment in our area.

The Elland and District Partnership provides funding and support for community events. Members work within the community and with councillors, police and community groups and they campaign for improvements in the local area. They also funded the Christmas tree lights and other festive events.
