WHEN I was passing the former Taylor and Littlewood mill at Newsome the other day it brought back memories from when I was a young lad, waiting by the gates, which were closed, for my father who worked in the weaving shed.

What seemed like hundreds of people waited on the inside; then the hooter sounded. The man in the gatehouse started turning this gigantic wheel The gates then opened slowly. Then all these people started running through the widening gap. Some were going home and quite a few, I think, were heading to the Wellington pub for a well-deserved pint!

I hope the developers of the site will preserve the wheel and the gates. Does anyone else have memories of Newsome Mills?
