I HAVE attended the Huddersfield Chorals Messiah for many years – I think at least 25, with the very odd missed year.

The performance on December 17 was just amazing.

It is very rare that everything comes together so perfectly. I loved the attention to detail of the orchestra, the subtlety for such a large group of musicians was outstanding. Some of the pianissimo sections were unbelievable. I heard bits in and among I have never noticed before.

The four soloists were all excellent. Again it is rare to get such a perfect match. In particular Lucy Crowe was a dream. When she walked on stage I thought if she can sing half as good as she looks this will be good, Lucy surpassed my wildest expectations, I will be watching for her in future in particular in Messiah.

The Choral I thought were at their very best. They are so “professional” in every way. I hope they realise how much pleasure they give every year but in particular this year, fabulous.

I think that just leaves Jane Glover. I love to see Jane conduct any thing, but in particular Messiah.

She conducted at a rapid pace that does not appeal to some, but I like the up-tempo renditions. How everyone kept the diction so precise was amazing.

Jane always manages to squeeze every last drop out of everyone, and the way she dances around the platform I wondered if she is practising for next year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Congratulations must also go to (chorusmaster) Joseph Cullen. He has done another wonderful job with the choral.

This year for me really was as good as I have tried to portray. I have to admit at the end of the first half I was so moved by the beautiful sound, my eyes were watering. I have never experienced such a feeling before.

Thanks to everyone.
