THEY met together as young mums to raise money for Hillhouse Methodist Church – and now 64 years later they have gathered together for the last time.
The group formed in 1948 at Hillhouse Methodist Church when several young mothers with small children who could not attend normal services decided to meet in their own homes. This proved popular and at the time there were 26 members.
The group enjoyed guest speakers and annual meals out. They raised money for the church and when the chapel closed they carried on and eventually transferred to Fartown Trinity Methodist Church.
Member Isobel Bannister said: “We will have been together for 64 years. People have come and gone, but time moves on and we have got old and some rather infirm so we have decided to wind up the group.
“We held our final meeting together this week and invited Minister Leslie Jane Noon. We have had a happy time of fellowship, friendship and help from each other for which we thank God.”
