Motorists were stuck in traffic in Milnsbridge this morning while repair work took place.
Yorkshire Water had fixed a leak overnight, but temporary traffic lights remained in place this morning as the road needed re-surfacing.
The leak was at the junction of Scar Lane and Lipscomb Street.
One commuter reported a 40 minute wait to get through Milnsbridge.
The company has apologised to motorists stuck in the traffic and explained the reasons behind the work.
A Yorkshire Water spokeswoman said: “The lead was first reported to us on November 8 and because of the sensitivities regarding traffic and highways issues in Milnsbridge we had to work very closely with highways to set a date.
“The repair was done overnight and traffic lights were put in place yesterday.
“However, the road needed to be resurfaced which is why there was lots of congestion this morning.
“We are very sorry to the people who were caught up in it.
“We worked as quickly as we could to fix the leak.”
