YOUNGSTERS in Mirfield are getting into the Olympic mood, thanks to Huddersfield Town Football Club.

Battyeford Primary School, which is a partner school of Town, was one of the stop-offs for the club’s community coaches for a themed Olympic fun day.

The ever-popular Terry the Terrier also went along as children took part in four football-themed events throughout the day – a throw-in contest, a sprint event, shooting a football through a target ring and competing in a long-jump competition.

All these events were sponsored with proceeds going back to the school to invest in new equipment and other improvements.

Town’s community manager Rob Day said the events were proving popular and added: “The upcoming Olympics are a great opportunity for us to try something new out in the community and these events – we’ve done about six now – are proving very popular.

“The competition is not quite a pentathlon but the events are a different way to coach football to the kids and they really seem to be enjoying it,” Rob added.
