Year 10 students staged their own battle of the brains to become the next young business success.

Eight groups from Moor End Academy took part in qualifying stages of the second Ryman National Enterprise Challenge, which is open to 20,000 pupils from across the country.

Winning team The Tidal Range will represent the school at the national finals this July after coming up with a range of wave-themed flip flops in commemoration of tsunami victims.

They will compete against up to 100 schools by pitching their idea and will take part in a Q and A session with Dragon’s Den stalwart Theo Paphitis.

Ami Gilliland, who will represent the group alongside Zac Burns, said, “It was a very enjoyable day which allowed us to gain valuable skills and get to know other students with whom we would not usually work”.
