CATERERS at Moor End Academy have come up with a recipe for success.

The Crosland Moor school has just been awarded the Food for Life Partnership bronze award for its healthy menus and climate-friendly food.

The academy’s Green Team has contributed by getting the new school garden up and running.

Students have been growing a variety of different vegetables, fruits and herbs throughout spring and summer terms, some of which have been eaten in school lunches.

Produce was also sold to school staff to raise money for future eco projects.

As part of the bronze award scheme, Moor End serves seasonal school meals, 75% of which are now freshly prepared by experienced school cook Jackie Marshall.

She said: “We’re fantastically pleased to work alongside the school, using fresh produce – often grown by the students – to provide a well balanced, exciting hot menu and salad bar service.”

The academy also gives every student the chance to visit a farm, cook and take part in growing food at school.

They and their parents are involved in decisions to improve the school’s menu and dining experience.
