SOME people take a lead in life to make sure organisations keep on running.

One such person is 90-year-old Marjorie Hirst who has been a leading light in the Townswomen’s Guild for many years – and certainly has been a major player in keeping the Mirfield branch going.

She has, quite rightly, been honoured for this by being named Townswoman Of The Year – and she has also been chairwoman and secretary of the West Yorkshire Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds.

Community life depends on such dedication and commitment and there are others in similar organisations – but do they always get the support and help they need?
