Irrespective of the supermarket brand this is a far better site than the ex-Midlothian Garage site in Holmfirth. Morrisons talk about competition but Meltham is only four miles away and they are planning to extend that site. Interesting times.

This development is totally in the wrong place. The traffic at this junction will be made worse than it is now at peak times. A supermarket is needed in Holmfirth as well as a petrol station so hurry up Tesco or whoever and get one built as traffic problems can no longer be an issue if the Morrisons development is allowed.

Huddsy

Well there is a surprise. A proposition for another supermarket just weeks before the Midlothian/Tesco site goes to appeal.

Aside from the income Kirklees will get from the sale of their land there, what else does it have going for it? Nothing. All the against arguments that have been levelled at Tesco apply here. Near a school, local shops might be affected and the road junction already a nightmare if you are trying to turn right out of the petrol station would be made worse. I actually see more of an against argument for this than the Mid site. Honley caters for locals, not tourists, it has shops that can be directly affected.

Let’s hope the planners at appeal see sense and approve Tesco and the long overdue development of the eyesore that is the Mid can begin.

Once the Tesco application was rejected by the planners we heard absolutely nothing about the Honley plans or the expansion of Morrisons in Meltham. Tesco go to appeal next month regarding the Midlothian site and suddenly the Drake/Kirklees Highways depot site is back in the news. Honley will certainly be a place to avoid if it gets the go ahead.
