IT was the kind-hearted members of a community who saved up items of food for those less fortunate than themselves.

But it was the mindless thugs who decided to undo all the good work.

Burglars broke into a Scissett church by smashing a window and then moved its cross, something church members described quite rightly as ‘disrespectful.’

But the thieves then decided to help themselves to the harvest collection, eating biscuits and leaving empty packets scattered over the church floor.

It is beyond comprehension what was going through the minds of the intruders as they broke into St Augustine’s Church and carried out such acts.

To break into a church is low, but to further destroy the efforts of parishioners to help others makes matters all the worse.

Church members struggle to understand the motives behind the burglary.

The clean-up effort is already underway and no doubt they will endeavour to collect more items for the harvest festival for The Welcome Centre in Huddersfield.

But the wider community needs to help the police find those responsible to stop them striking again. If you know who they are, name them.
