CONSERVATIVE MP Jason McCartney joined a rail users group on the picturesque Penistone Line.

He said: “I was astounded that there were so many people on the train at 10.22am, this was a real eye-opener.

“In the last 10 years the number of rail users has increased 110%.

“Car parking, fares, franchising, platform lengths and rolling stock were among this issues discussed while on board with the chairman and committee member from the Huddersfield Penistone and Sheffield Rail Users’ Association.

“It is vital to invest in local rail services as the roads get busier and I hope that I can help in my role as vice-chairman of the Northern Rail All Party Parliamentary Group. There are parking issues at Brockholes and some of the long term issues include improved access at Huddersfield rail stations and better access for disabled people.”
