THE magic of Mozart will be combined with the might of Mahler for Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra’s next Huddersfield Town Hall concert on Saturday April 19 (start 7.30pm).

Award-winning young soprano Myvanwy Bentall joins the orchestra once more, to perform her own selection of arias alongside Mozart's mysterious and exciting Magic Flute overture. The second half of the concert is Mahler's extraordinary first symphony – ending in a triumphant blaze of glory (including a standing french horn section), the symphony takes the audience on a journey through beautiful nature scenes, a funeral march, a Bohemian village band, and an exuberant Landler. Its wild, triumphant conclusion, the first of many of his symphonies to celebrate a victory of life over death, is not to be missed.

Guest conductor for the grand concert is Christopher Swaffer.

Myvanwy joined the SPO as a member of the second violins in October 1997 and left in June 2003 to take up a place at the Royal Academy of Music. This is her third appearance with the SPO and she is delighted to be back performing with them again.
