The Penistone Line Partnership which promotes the Huddersfield to Sheffield line has been shortlisted at the National Community Rail Awards.

It has been honoured partly because of the unique Stitch the Line project which was carried out in March of this year.

A group of Textile Craft Students from the University of Huddersfield showcased their talents at stations along the Penistone Line.

Themes of the work varied at each of the stations, reflecting local history and the rural nature of the line. The project aimed to raise awareness of local craft studios and galleries and to brighten up the stations along the way.

Drew Haley, client and stakeholder manager for Northern Rail, said: “The Stitch the Line project is an industry first and is a great example of communities working together to promote rail travel in a creative way.”

Rowena Chantler, of the Penistone Line Partnership, said: “Credit goes out to all the students and craft groups involved in the project”
