ELDERLY residents are being invited to get involved with a new reading group.
Deighton-based Social enterprise Fresh Horizons is launching the regular sessions at the Chestnut Centre in Sheepridge next month to encourage those over 65 to keep their minds active and integrate with the community.
Creative Ashbrow Partnership (CAP) Coordinator for Fresh Horizons, Dani Maloney is pioneering the project and has invited adult story teller Vickie Orton to lead the sessions.
Dani said: “We hope this initiative will link in with our Chestnut Community Cinema so people can attend for free by borrowing books from the Chestnut Centre Library.
“The cinema has been running since late August 2012 and has seen a positive reception and an increase in book lending.
“The reading group will complement the cinema and help to make the library the heart of creative activity within the area.”
The first session will be held a the Chestnut Centre on February 9 at 11am.
Places for the Reading Group are limited and can be booked in advance by calling the Chestnut Centre on 01484 234234.
Light refreshments will be provided for reading group members.
