BROCKHOLES

The Rev David Barnes celebrated parish communion for Candlemas at St George’s Church – the presentation of Christ in the temple. Mrs Rosalind Watt read the lessons and the vicar read the gospel. His sermon drew from the story of Christ’s presentation at the temple. The server was Roger Kenworthy and sidesmen were Mr and Mrs Martin Dove. Organist was Verena Wood.

Morning worship at the Methodist Church was led by Terry Frost. Readers were Jan Gaunt and Michael Pears. Robert Booth was the organist.

HEPWORTH

Parish Eucharist was celebrated by the Rev Keith Griffin at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday morning. The reader was Graham Latham, prayers were led by Richard Southam and the organist was Jane Robertson.

On Tuesday, the Hepworth Branch of the Mothers Union held their annual meeting, preceded by a faith lunch, in church. Doreen Glover was elected branch leader, taking over from Sheila Scholefield and Maureen Buckley was re-elected as branch secretary.

On Tuesday evening, the weekly general knowledge quiz was held in the Sports and Social Club and on Wednesday evening Hepworth Parochial Church Council held their first meeting of the year.

HOLMBRIDGE

Members of the Holmfirth Camera Club held a Natural History Projected competition. The winner was Chris Newsome with Peter Bartlett second and Geoff France third.

Hilary’s keep fit class met in the parish hall.

Midweek Communion at St David’s Church was led by the Rev Geoff Bamford and Ian Gold read the lesson. Meetings of the Monkey Business, Over 60s and Tumble Tots groups were held during the week. Friday evening prayers were led by Carolyn Burley.

Parish Eucharist at St David’s Church was led by the Rev Geoff Bamford. John Parker and Anne Littlewood read the lessons. Carolyn Burley led the intercessions and Ian Gold administered the chalice. Ben and Helen Cooper led the crèche and junior church. Eddie Purcell played the organ.

HOLMFIRTH

The Fourth Sunday of Epiphany was celebrated at Holy Trinity with 10.30 Parish Eucharist, when the Rev Keith Griffin was the celebrant. He was assisted with the chalice by Brian Shaw. The reading was from1 Corinthians v 13. There will be an Upper Room Service tomorrow at 10.30 – all welcome.

Joy Unspeakable rang out of the Phoenix Centre, Holmfirth, when Full Life Church’s worship team began to sing and play. In the prayer time before the service it was voiced several times that we want to praise and thank the Lord and see Jesus' name lifted high – and that certainly happened. The scripture reading was read by Janet Sharland, 1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:5. Pastor Ian Gooch delivered God’s word titled Making Growth Choices and Janet Sharland led 'X'plorers teaching them God’s truth through the Bible, games and making things. Wednesday was started by praise and worship followed by further teaching on The Holy Spirit – Releasing The Potential Within – followed by tea and coffee. Members said it was great to be back together after the bad snow and ice.

HONLEY

Parish Eucharist at St Mary’s Church was celebrated by the Rev David Barnes. Andrew Dean read the lesson and intercessions were read by Jean and Leslie Chadwick. Organist was Michael Clarke.

A meeting of St Mary’s Men’s Society was addressed by Stephen Dufton with an account of his life and career. The chairman was Bill Kemp, who proposed the vote of thanks.

UPPERTHONG

Members of Upperthong and Netherthong Mothers’ Unions held their annual meeting at Netherthong. The meeting was followed by a faith supper.

Midweek Communion at St John’s Church was led by Dean Henry Stapleton, who was also celebrant. A faith lunch followed.

Family Eucharist at St John’s Church was led by the Rev Geoff Bamford, who read the gospel, preached the sermon and was celebrant. The readers were John Booth and Bill Brown, who assisted with the chalice. Les Walron read prayers and Adam Greenhalgh was the organist. Refreshments were served afterwards.

The evening service was led by the Rev Di Ellerton.

WOOLDALE

The service on Sunday at Wooldale Methodist Free Church was led by Mr R Armitage, who read from Genesis chapter 1 and spoke on If God is so powerful why does he left awful things happen?’ He then went on to give various illustrations with this in mind. There will be no Sunday service tomorrow, but there will be a service as normal on Sunday February 14 The pianist was Mrs Muriel Bennett.
