Vinn Garbutt held a concert in the church, as the village hall was not quite ready. The hall committee provided refreshments and raffle prizes which raised £150 for hall funds. In church, Paul Hallam, of Bradford, was the visiting speaker. He told the children not to be afraid to be different because they come to church and be open about living as a Christian. Don't hide your light - light the place up, he said. For the adults he read from Ezekiel about Jerusalem's fall explained. The people heard and enjoyed the word of God but did not live it. God says 'Do you really trust me?' Next week will be a worship service.

On Monday May 4, the Hospice Support Group will be running a home produce stall and serving lunches and refreshments in the church hall from 11am.

CLAYTON WEST

A special event was hosted last Saturday by the Methodist Church, under the heading Did You Know? Community groups who use the church premises for their meetings invited the public to come and share an exhibition of all their activities, and perhaps join one of the many groups, who included Hobsons' Chorus and Shepley Band both performed and entertained the visitors. Other groups included Community Dance Workshops, Churches Together Kidz Club, Childrens Holiday Club, The Retired Mens Club, The Collectors Club, and recently the Brownies.Refreshments were served and at lunch time soup and a roll were available. It was well attended and everyone enjoyed seeing all the activities in the village.

Sunday morning worship was led by Peter Holt, who spoke about repentance and forgiveness. Bible readings from Acts and John were given by Joan Bond and Fred Green. Stewards were Betty Booth and Joan Bond. A gift of flowers for the communion table was given by Joan Wade. Coffee and biscuits were served after the service.

DENBY DALE

The children's club met on Friday evening.

On Sunday morning the members of the Sunday School held a free and easy morning.

Instead of the usual evening service the members at Zion travelled to the Bow Broom Wesleyan Reform Chapel for their annual visit for a united service and tea.

Tomorrow morning (Sunday) the members of the Sunday school will start work on a tapestry and Les Barber will be the preacher at the 6pm service.

EMLEY

On Friday evening Emley African Schools Project held an up-to-date slide show including sponsorships organised by Rosemary Donnan and helpers. Refreshments were served and an African craft stall sold goods.

On Saturday afternoon the wedding of Hadde Kordab and Joanne Marsh was presided over by the Rev Chris Bullimore.

On Sunday morning a communion service was led by the Rev Bullimore. Esther Ryder and Michael Hull read the Bible. The organ was played by Malcolm Jessop. John Bullimore gave the sermon based on accounts from the New Testament of Jesus’ appearances to his disciples. Remember Christ is risen offering new life in Christ, forgiveness of sins, receiving the Holy Spirit and seeing it at work in daily life in today’s world. At the end of the service Jill Marsh thanked everyone for their care and prayer support during her illness.

KIRKBURTON

Members of the Burton Friendship Club met at The Hub on Tuesday afternoon and had a Beetle Drive.Š The winners of the afternoon games were Kath Fagin and Jean Marsden. The raffle was won by Maureen Calvert and Joan Shaw. They rounded off the afternoon with tea and biscuits.

This week, some of the members went on a trip organised by Mrs Summerton and Mrs Wragg to Oakwell Hall and Red House.

SHELLEY

Shelley Over 60s Club held their meeting in the village hall last Thursday. The bingo line was won by Eve Astin and the full house by Sheila Taylor. The first three numbers on one card was not won and the prize carried over.The whist high of 90 was won by Harry Rose and the low of 62 went to PC Sally Baines from eight tables. Birthday wishes were sent to Mary Hobson, Sylvia Deeley, Baz Thornton and PC Sally Baines. Raffle prizes were won by Betty Cassinelli, Colin Littlewood, Jenny Rose, Rene Biggin, Ruth Sheffield and Bessie Exley.

SKELMANTHORPE

Sunday morning service at the Wesleyan Reform Chapel was led by Mrs Carol Senior. Her bible readings from Luke were ready by Celia Pickles. The organist was John Orton. Refreshments were served afterwards by Susan Wright.
