IT’S been a real labour of love for a group of knitters from Newsome.

They have just completed their 150th blanket for the Huddersfield-based charity the Christian African Relief Trust.

The ladies from St John’s Church, Newsome, St Paul’s Church, Armitage Bridge, and Berry Brow Methodist Church have been knitting for the charity since 2002.

Before that they knitted blankets for Oxfam and Save the Children.

When the squares are completed they are sewn together by Mrs Dorothy Longden who also crochets around the edges.

She said: “The blankets are sent all over African but they are also sent to other disaster areas such as where a tsunami has hit.”
