NORTH Huddersfield Learning Community has backed ASDA’s £22,000 minibus appeal.

The Learning Community includes several local schools, which will now get behind the project to raise cash to buy the vehicle.

A whole range of fundraising activities will take place over the course of this academic year.

There will be some activities in individual schools and others will be held at the Brackenhall ASDA supermarket.

Children will be singing carols in store this Christmas to launch the project and to kick-start the fundraising campaign

An Asda spokeswoman said: “Research has shown transport costs can be a barrier to many schools accessing activities, and having a minibus that all the schools can use will be a huge boost.

“Trips to local museums and places of interest help to bring learning to life.

“Having access to a minibus will enable schools to enrich and broaden the education of our children.

The project is the brainchild of Asda community ambassadors Judith Alderman and Anne Hodkin who are now set to drive it forward, working closely with Lisa Jagger, enrichment activity facilitator for the North Huddersfield Learning Community.

The North Huddersfield Learning Community is a partnership between Ashbrow, Birkby Infant, Birkby Junior, Fixby J&I, and St Thomas Primary Schools, along with Christ Church Academy, North Huddersfield Trust School and the Primary Pupil Referral Unit.
