NOSTALGIA reader Mrs Betty Staniforth has kindly submitted two pictures for inclusion in this column.

Betty, the widow of former Examiner photographer, the fondly remembered, late Bob Staniforth, is not sure what year Bob took this splendid photo of the Huddersfield Choral Society on stage at the town hall.

Colleague Val Javin suggests, in view of the four soloists that appear on stage in the photograph, that it was taken at a performance of Messiah around Christmas time.

Another colleague, John Avison, himself a former member of the choral society, guesses that the year was 1972. But he stresses that this is indeed just a guess.

Can anyone confirm the year and name the conductor and the soloists?

The picture on the far left is of the former Hoobram House, Honley – the home of mill owner Joseph Albert Greenwood and his wife Lucy and family. The date is thought to be around 1900.
