THE year 1958 was an excellent one in Clayton West if you loved sports ... or brass band music.

In fact, it was a vintage year as this photograph from Bryan Glover proves.

It was taken to capture the moment all the cups were in the same place.

“It was just a phenomenal sporting year for the village,’’ said 79-year-old Bryan who lives in Skelmanthorpe.

“I hope it brings back happy memories to many others.

“Apart from doing well in cricket, football and bowling, the village also notched up some notable brass band successes too.’’

This remarkable year of sporting and musical winners lined up for a picture to record their success.

The winners were Bill Exley ( for bowling), Albert Sheard (bowling), Edward Hepworth (football’s Barlow cup), Henry Morton (bowling) plus the man who sent in the photograph, Bryan Glover (cricket) and George Hallas (brass band cups).
