WAKEFIELD road has been the scene of yet another bad accident.

Again, it’s far too early to speculate on the cause, but more safety investigations will now take place to try to find out why this road – especially the stretch from Waterloo to the National Coal Mining Museum – has become such a notorious accident blackspot.

There are plenty of signs along that stretch and the speed limit has been cut in recent times, but still the tragedies and near-tragedies are happening.

Despite all the deaths and serious incidents, so far there has been no move to install speed cameras there.

Of course, that would spark another debate over the effectiveness of cameras – don’t drivers simply slow for them and then put their foot down again afterwards?

There is a more effective way to avoid most serious smashes.

Stick to the speed limits.
