LEADERS and teachers have transformed a Brighouse primary school in just two years.

In April 2011, Bailiffe Bridge Junior and Infant School only received a Satisfactory (3) grade from government inspectors.

However, following their recent two-day visit, the Ofsted inspectors have just written a glowing report of the school, its staff and 205 pupils.

They rate the Victoria Road school as ‘Good’, with behaviour and safety of pupils being ‘Outstanding’ – and staff are delighted.

Head teacher Helen Proctor told pupils and parents: “I am sure you will be pleased to know that we were judged as ‘Good with Outstanding features’. This is a fantastic outcome and we are very proud of all we have achieved.”

The inspectors heaped praise on the school, stating: “The head teacher and senior leaders have transformed the quality of provision within the school, leading to effective teaching and significant improvements to the pupils’ achievement.

“Pupils reach high standards by the time they reach Year 6 and are well prepared for their secondary education. Disabled pupils and those with special educational needs (SEN) make good progress.

“The majority of teaching seen during the inspection was good. Progress in the pupils’ books is at least good and outstanding in some classes. Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary at all times. The governance of the school is excellent and the school ensures money is spent wisely.”

They added that for the school to become outstanding, writing needs to improve.

The overwhelming majority of pupils are white British and the school has a below-average number of disadvantaged and SEN pupils.
