EXCITEMENT is building at the Colne Valley Museum as Havercakes weekend approaches.
Volunteer ‘Young Jane’ will give a demonstration on how to make oatcakes and rumour has it that the Haverboys of His Majesty’s 33rd Regiment of Foot are coincidentally drilling in the area (Saturday only) and may just pop in –no doubt hoping to cadge some of the freshly made ‘havercakes’ at the same time.
The Golcar museum is also still running the exhibition In the Victorian Kitchen — a display of household domestic treasures from their store-room.
Find out more about the Havercake Lads and try a ‘treacle-shauve’ for yourself next weekend (Saturday and Sunday February 23 and 24) between 2pm and 5pm.
