It brought a response from reader Lucie Hughes, who reckoned the victims showed in their response what Christianity is really all about.

“They are not angry with the man, but concerned for his welfare and wellbeing,” she wrote.

Lucie, who lives in Huddersfield, wins our letter of the month prize for expressing her view that the only way to change things and make a difference is to pull together as a community and to reach out to those who are hurting.

If she cares to contact us on 01484 437719 she will get a copy of The Assassin’s Cloak, an anthology of diarists supplied courtesy of our friends, Waterstones, the booksellers with two branches in Huddersfield.

Thank you to everyone who has written. Keep your letters and emails coming!
