Scouts have been recognised for their achievements at an awards evening.

The Cambodunum Explorer Unit received awards for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh and the Platinum Explorer Scout badge.

The group, based at Outlane Methodist Church, had to complete various activities to achieve these.

These were six months’ voluntary work in the community and learning a new skill.

Members also had to complete a challenging expedition in the Yorkshire Dales and camp for a minimum of six nights.

Hayley Hudson, assistant Explorer Scout leader, said: “We are really proud of these individuals who have received their awards.

“It will help them develop in later life with further education and careers.”

The Unit has 27 young people aged between 14 and 18 and is attached to the Outlane Scout Group at the church.

It is named after the Roman settlement which existed under the M62 built next door.

Members are planning more expeditions and challenges over the coming months for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Scouts Awards.
