SOME people care for their own children at home, others opt for private day care, and others choose childminders. But I, like many now and in the past, chose Cambridge Road nursery, and I want that freedom of choice to continue.

After having waded through Ofsted reports, given consideration to personal recommendations, and pondered over location, location, location, I decided as only a mother could, to base the decision of where to send my children – the apples of my eye – on an intuitive basis.

Observed with such tenderness during my unscheduled visit to view the nursery, was the simple request of a small child, to the manager of the nursery, for a hug. A hug that I fear anywhere else may have been brushed off, ‘pencilled in’ for a later date, or postponed pending staff recruitment.

It was the way in which this request was spontaneously responded to, with genuine and unquestionable affection that cemented my decision to send my children to Cambridge Road.

Oh, let’s not forget the excellent Ofsted report, sound recommendations from colleagues, and its fantastic and easy to access location!

Continued investment in the fantastic childcare provision at Cambridge Road must not be sidelined. We must question why the council is sadly putting the issue of money before the care and development of Huddersfield’s children. We must do our best not to allow this to happen. Investment in Cambridge Road now will bring an unparalleled return. What could be more important than our future generation?
