WHITE lines have been painted through giant pot-holes in the Holme Valley.

The new road markings were painted by Kirklees Council contractors on Upper Hagg Road, on the way from Oldfield to the Bottom of Netherthong, last month.

One angry resident, Julian Stancliffe from Holmfirth, said: “I think Kirklees Highways should have had a look at the state of the road before they instructed their contractors to paint it.

“I have myself reported this stretch of road many times to them via telephone and by their pothole reporting website and I thought they would have used normal tarmac not ‘white tarmac’.

“They have repaired some parts of the road to a fashion, but more potholes have appeared around these so called repairs.

“I drive this stretch of road most days to and from work and to the town centre, so I am familiar with its condition but they only inspect it once a year via a drive past method.”

A Kirklees Council spokesman, said: “Road lining is a safety issue and is not a costly exercise.

“These lines can easily be repainted when the road is repaired.

“The damage shown is too shallow for conventional pothole repairs and the areas will need to be patched.

“There is currently a waiting list for this work and no date has been set for this particular road.”
