Parish church on track to raise the roof

GREAT inroads are being made on the huge amount of work needed to refurbish Kirkheaton Parish Church. Writing in the latest edition of its newsletter, rector Richard Steel said due to the number of very generous gifts from a recent gift day, around £115,000 has been added to the fund creating a total of £490,000 – with more gifts still coming in. Richard said: “This is fantastic news as it means we are now nearly £50,000 beyond our minimum target so the basic work can be done – the toilets are on their way. This also means we are beginning to make serious inroads into the amounts we need for such things as a new sound system and work to prevent the draughts.” And he explained that the reason Old School was not sold to raise money was the depressed state of the property market making any sale a commercial nonsense. A text giving account has also been set up. People can give £10 by texting KPCC10£10 to 70070. No money is taken for administration so the church gets the full amount.

Finally, parishioners are reminded that work on the roof has now started and will continue into the new year. This will mean Easter Sunday will be the last service in the church before it is vacated temporarily. From April 7 the main service will be held at Kirkheaton Primary School at 10.30am with an earlier service in the parish centre at 8.30am.
