Snow can be quite difficult to forecast.

There are many conditions under which snow can reach the surface. Today may well be one of those days as a small wave low pressure system runs across the Midlands along a south moving cold front. Huddersfield is right on the northern edge of the front so we have to look at many different elements when forecasting if it snows or rains. How much the cold air undercuts the warmer air moving away south is one factor. How high up you go is another factor. How heavy the precipitation is another as this increases the evaporation rate between cloud and ground and lowers the freezing point and saturation point in the atmosphere, as well as surface temperature and dew point. That’s why today in the forecast I talk about the possibility of wet snow, especially on the higher ground!
