Now that the clocks have gone forward one hour we all benefit from the extra hour in the evenings.

There is a big debate at the moment as to whether or not we should leave the clocks where they are and actually move them another hour further forward next March and not move them back in October. This is proposed partly for the Olympics, tourism and bringing us in line with CET (Central European Time), for the evening sporting events and TV audiences. I think an extra two hours of light in the evening’ summer and winter would be a great idea. It’s two hours warmer for a start. So imagine having the barbecue in the evening at 8pm DST double summer time or CET. It would really be 6pm in GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) or actual sun time in the sky. In a typical British summer it is 3ºC warmer at 6pm than it would be at 8pm. So there is no need for that jumper and we are more likely to be outside enjoying the extra heat and light, summer and winter. Then later in the evening at 10pm it would be 8pm in GMT – could you image the benefits?!
