PAUL Whittaker is about to score another first when he does the first ever Prom in sign language.

When it comes to helping the deaf, Paul literally has the whole world in his hands.

He has brought music to life over many years from stage musicals to the Proms and on Saturday he will sign 19 items from the two-hour Stephen Sondheim concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

No mean feat, but if anyone can do it brilliantly then Paul can. After all, in 1988 he founded the charity Music And The Deaf and was later awarded an OBE.

Over the years he has given deaf people the chance to enjoy music – something they had been excluded from for so long.

If ever a community had a hero, the deaf community has one in Paul.
