VOLUNTEERS have saved the community of Denby Dale well over £1m, councillors say.
So in return, Denby Dale Area Committee honoured the dedicated unpaid workers with a gala ceremony at Scissett First School where they were presented with certificates by Kirklees Mayor Clr Karim Hussain.
Denby Dale ward councillor and chairman of the area committee Elaine Ward, said: “This was the first event of its kind in the Denby Dale ward, organised to say thank you to all the unpaid volunteers who work tirelessly to make the area a better place to live.
“Around 200 people enjoyed a wonderful afternoon and 173 certificates were presented by the mayor and Clr John Cook.
“Scissett Jazz Band and Scissett Stage Door Theatre Company provided excellent entertainment and there were various stalls so every one was well catered for. I must say the cream teas were delicious.
“From the comments I received I don't think that will be the last time we hold an event for volunteers in the Denby Dale ward,” Clr Ward added.
